Welcome to ASU Robotics Camps 2010!

What is ASU Robotics Camp?

ASU’s Robotics Camp is a summer program series designed for high school students who intend to pursue a science and engineering career. The camp is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, Intel and the School of Computing, Informatics and Decision Systems Engineering at Arizona State University. Camp instructors use component-based robot construction, robotics programming and Alice game programming as a vehicle to teach the latest engineering design concepts and computing technologies. The robots built by students will enter a robotics competition and demonstration.

RobotCamp7up, June 21 to July 2, 2010, Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 12:30pm. This camp is designed for both middle school and high school students. Middle school students will be taught at the level of difficulty similar to FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Challenge, while the high school students will work on more difficult missions such as programming autonomous robots.

RobotCamp9up July 5 to July 16, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This camp is designed for high school students. Students of grades 7 and 8 can be admitted, if they attended RobotCamp7up.

Both camps will be taught in ASU Engineering Building Brickyard, 699 S. Mill Ave, Tempe, 85281.

The camps will be taught by Dr. Yinong Chen and his assistants. Dr. Chen is a computing and robotics expert, who led ASU teams to win champion titles in the "Ultimate Architecture Sumo-Robot Competition" in Las Vegas in 2005 and in 2006. Dr. Chen is also the organizer of the Arizona Robotics Challenge Series, sponsored by Intel, and the previous ASU Summer Robotics Camps (2006-2009).

Who Should Attend?

RobotCamp7up 2009 is designed for students entering grades 7 through 12 in Fall 2010.
RobotCamp9up 2009 is designed for students entering grades 9 through 12 in Fall 2010.
Prior experience in programming or robotics is not required. However, participants should have a passion for science and engineering and be highly computer literate. Students without programming background and with programming background will be taught in different groups and will compete in different leagues in the robotics competitions in the camp's closing ceremony. We also train high school teachers who are involved in computer courses, game programming and robotics clubs in their schools. Teachers will participate in the RobotCamp9up from July 5 to July 16, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Robotics Competition

Robotics Competitions will be organized for participants at the end of the camp. Competitions will be organized in different leagues, depending on the levels of their study in the camp. Photo Gallery 2008 Competition
